Why we started it
Ask anyone running a building or trades business what they struggle with, and the answer is rarely the work. It is the books.
People who are good at their trade end up spending their evenings on invoices, CIS deductions and receipts, because it has to be done and there is nobody else to do it. That time comes out of the work that makes money. And the more work you win, the more paperwork there is.
This work matters to the country, too. Building, fitting out and repairing things has to be done by people on site, and we want to make those businesses easier to grow.
So we started Quids to take the books off your hands, without it becoming another thing you have to chase.
What we do differently
We set out to give you three things: quick replies, straight answers, and more than the bare minimum. Here is how.
You always know where you stand
Each month we tell you what is done, what we still need from you, and what is due next.
Nothing is filed until you say yes
We prepare your VAT return and payroll, and we file them once you approve them. Your CIS return we prepare and you send yourself. It is your name on the return, so it is your decision.
We do more than the minimum
Tidy books are the starting point. Our aim is a business that is easier to run each month. We are bookkeepers, not accountants, and we tell you plainly when something is a job for your accountant, such as your year end accounts. Bookkeeper or accountant: the difference
Your books stay yours
We work in Xero, and the subscription is in your name. If you ever leave, your books stay with you.
Who we are for
Construction firms, trades and landlords. We are especially useful if you pay subcontractors, because that brings in the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS): monthly returns, deductions and statements, which take the most time and carry the penalties.
